Fun With Microfilm
October 23, 2009
Hey folks,
I’m behind the scenes here during a brief break away from the Making of the FWL. I’m typing this from the downtown Gainesville library with a cartridge of microfilm in hand. “Micro-what” you may ask. Well, long before sexy CDs, the internet, and all that flashy jazz newspaper articles, magazines, and census information (among other things) used to be stored via this medium. So if I want to read an article in the New York Times from October 9, 1985 for example, I can do this. It’s pretty nifty reading an old newspaper via what is basically a slide show.
Why am I doing this?
The Future Wrestling League is essentially an ongoing writing exercise of historical fiction. The events that took place back in the 80′s will play a critical role in what shapes and molds the overall story of the FWL. Portrarying accurately important or relevant events from that time period helps the reader escape into a world that feels real and legitimate. While the task may prove challenging, the FWL wants to convey a certain amount of credibility in its accounting of 1985 and beyond.
How much research is required to pull this off? A lot, as I am quickly finding out. The library has literally become my second home. Sure, there’s a lot of things I could find out on the internet at home but to get in-depth on certain facts, views, and attitudes I’ve had to go out and dig deeper. Trust me, I’m having fun during this portion of the creative process. If I wasn’t I’d be jumping in a cool refreshing pool right now with a Corona in my right hand instead. I might be doing this anyway, after I leave these hollied halls of literature. For now though, just for you, I’ll make a sacrifice.
I’ll keep digging.
I’ll keep finding fun things on Microfilm.
The Game Plan
October 23, 2009Hello citizens of the Future Wrestling League! I have a VERY IMPORTANT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT to make. Please read very carefully. But first a word from our sponsor….
And…. welcome back.
As of yesterday, October 22, 2009 I am clearing my desk of all non-essential e-wrestling endeavors to focus soley on the Future Wrestling League’s launch. This will allow me the valuable time needed to venture out outside of the norms of typical e-fed recruiting circles to find quality staff and roster members. Of course my good friends at EWZine are hearing about this too. Where would I be without them?
Momentum is building, make no mistake. I’ve heard too many times “This 80′s E-Fed is a REALLY interesting idea!” not to follow through with opening the FWL. Therefore, first things first. I need a right hand man. Second, a dedicated staff excited about going head to head with the 80′s WWF. Third, the roster… a real roster. Not the jobber fodder created by myself and the staff to put over the Superstars of the FWL on SLAM!.
What’s in store….
PrimeTime Titans will air on New Years Day. This gives myself and those that come on board two solid months to plan, execute, and produce said nationally syndicated show. The catch? We have to make a 1986 based show feel LIVE and suspend your disbelief for the duration of that broadcast. We’re going to be attempting something no one else has ever tried to do before. Creatively, this could be challenging but the reward at the end of the day will be well worth it. I have this picture in my mind of it all happening. Just think of how much fun that’s going to be!
Can we deliver? Thinking things through for over a year now…. YES! The question is can you contribute? Can you be one of the wrestlers in the ring during the apex of wrestling boom? Could you be someone who makes professional wrestling history?
Those interested in joining the fight to change the course of professional wrestling can e-mail thefwl@hotmail.com or go to the FWL website for more details. I’ll be sure to answer any questions and listen to whatever ideas you may have in how to kick Vince McMahon’s ass…. in the 80′s.
Thanks,
Dave
Why An 80′s E-Fed?
October 21, 2009To understand wrestling’s past is to have a greater appreciation for its current appeal.
Joining the FWL is a journey through time. You’re going to see and experience things about the pro wrestling business you wouldn’t be able to experience in any other place. You’re being given the opportunity to be a part of the apex of the wrestling boom from a very unique first person point of view.
Sure, you could read an old Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine article, or an 80′s wrestler’s autobiography entry. You might gain a certain amount of perspective about the time period. As a wrestler employed by the FWL however?
Things are happening.
Things are changing.
Yes, in real time.
As a part of the action, you’re helping mold and shape an alternate timeline. Instead of the World Wrestling Federation of the 80′s, going head to head with the NWA and other territories, a new variable has been added in to perhaps change the course of the future…
You.
You’re becoming a part of a team (the Future Wrestling League) who’s main goal is not just to survive but beat the likes of Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan at their own game.
Relatively unopposed, we know how the WWE monopoly reigns supreme today while other wrestling organizations struggle just to get a venue to seat 500 true, diehard wrestling fans.
Wouldn’t you like to go back in time and perhaps change professional wrestling’s fate?
Whether or not you change the course of the future is up to you.
Join today.
